PROPOSED BYLAWS FOR LOCAL 549

Here you will find the most recent draft of the proposed Bylaws for our local, as made available on August 22, 2007. On September 19, 2007 there will be a General Membership Meeting where all members of the Local will meet to review this draft and vote to adopt some or all of the Bylaws listed, with any needed amendments.

The final package we vote to adopt will be sent to OPSEU for approval, and if approved will become the first official set of Bylaws for Local 549.

As you read the proposal, you will find an LEC checkmark on some of the pages. This indicates that the LEC has reviewed the page and recommends it for adoption. Any highlighted text, including that on recommended pages, should be given special attention to make sure it says what we want it to say.

You will also find here a more recent rewrite of Bylaw 7.9, the Hardship Committee, which now contains the financial resolution that was adopted on August 22, 2007 at our General Membership Meeting. Since this resolution already exists, we will simply be deciding whether to include it in our Bylaws in this manner.

You should also visit http://www.opseu.org/constitution/ and download the latest version of the OPSEU Constitution - the Bylaws reference the Constitution very heavily.

If you have any questions about the proposal, or want to suggest changes, please contact your Working Area Steward, an LEC Officer or myself, Walter. We will be making amendments on September 19, but if we get your suggestions ahead of time we can prepare the wording in advance.
