PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I would like to thank everyone who has supported my efforts as Local President for the past three years and have continued that support by accepting me in that position for another two year term.

In the Fall of 2006, when the Local 549 membership became aware that there appeared to be a number of significant problems with how their Local was being administered, I first asked you to elect me as Local President for one reason alone.

Over the preceding 37 years, I had accumulated considerable experience in building and administering organizations involved with political, social and community issues that were run by, and for the members themselves. I felt that all that experience could be applied to resolving the challenges facing Local 549 in a positive way, and return control over how it was being managed back to the members.

Your response to the progress report I submitted for review at the General Membership Meeting in March indicates to me that, so far, you approve. If you haven’t seen the report, which was circulated to all the Stewards, let me know and I will send you a copy.

I am inviting the Local membership to join with me in continuing to move in the direction we started in 2006.

Until the end of December, the Local will be busy with organizing the two Holiday events we traditionally co-host with the Science Centre at this time of the year, so there won’t be a lot of time to devote to discussions about Local priorities and ongoing business that we regularly have to address. However, the Elected Officers will be meeting to organize the approaches they will be proposing so that they can be presented to the Local Executive Committee, if not in December, at least as early as possible in January 2010.

We will keep all the newly elected Stewards fully informed about any planned meetings that we feel can be scheduled. If you don’t hear anything from your area Steward for a while, please check out the Local bulletin boards or our Local 549 website.
